Minnesota summers can be miserable without air conditioning in your home. The humidity and hot summer nights make having a fully functional AC unit essential for a comfortable May through September. You do not want your air conditioning to fail in the middle of a heat wave. Before the true heat of summer hits, you may want to consider if it’s time to replace your AC unit. Here are four signs that it may be worth the investment this year.
1. Your Energy Bills Skyrocketed Last Summer
One of the signs an AC unit is nearing its end is when it begins using more electricity. Poorly functioning air conditioning units will use more energy to achieve the same comfort level. Not only will a new unit use less energy in most cases, but the latest models are also much more efficient than those from a decade or more ago.
2. Your AC Unit is an Adolescent
If your AC unit is an adolescent or a teenager, it is worth considering replacement. Most air conditioning systems only last 10-15 years – it is not a matter of if it will stop functioning, but when. Proactively replacing an old AC unit can prevent the inevitable breakdown at the least convenient time, usually in the middle of a heat wave.
3. Repeated Repair Bills
Repairing an AC unit that is only a few years old makes sense. However, repairing an AC unit year after year may be throwing good money after bad. There is a point where it makes better sense to replace a unit that is unreliable and costs you a small fortune in repair bills.
4. Comfort Level is Poor
The whole point of having an air conditioning unit is to have a comfortable home. If your current unit is not achieving the desired results, consider upgrading to a system that will give you clean, cool air evenly throughout your home.
