Your HVAC System Cannot Work Without These Parts

Exterior HVAC System

Knowing the components of your HVAC system that allow it to work properly makes it easier to maintain the system and detect when you need to call an experienced HVAC contractor. When considering the main components of your HVAC system, you can divide the entire system into two sides: the cooling side and the heating side.

What Are the Main Components of an HVAC System

Evaporator Coil

Your evaporator coil is a component that is part of the indoor unit of your HVAC system. It is considered a component of an HVAC system because it helps cool your home. Since it’s made of highly conductive metals such as copper, it absorbs the heat from the warm air inside your home and passes this heat to the cold refrigerant running through the coil.

As the refrigerant grabs that heat, the surface of the coil cools considerably, which causes the moisture around it to condense. This causes the air around the coil to cool considerably. The refrigerant evaporates or turns into a vapor and moves to the compressor, which pushes it to the outdoor unit of your HVAC system.

This is why moisture condenses in the form of water droplets on the surface of the evaporator coil and then collects in the drain pan. The more moisture that condenses, the more the humidity in your home reduces.

Condensing Coil

The refrigerant from the evaporator coil does not go directly to the condensing coil situated in the outdoor unit of your HVAC system. Instead, it flows into a compressor, which increases its pressure and temperature, then pushes it into the condenser coil.

The condenser coil is where the refrigerant turns into a high-pressure subcooled liquid. This cooling is done by the fan situated in the outdoor unit of your HVAC system. The subcooled liquid is then transferred to a metering device which lowers its pressure, helping to cool it further before it’s pumped back into the evaporator coil.

The Thermostat

One of the most important components of an HVAC system, the thermostat allows you to control the entire HVAC system. It has sensors that can read the temperature in your home and help it decide whether to turn your HVAC system on or off. You can ensure that it functions correctly by replacing its batteries on time.
